Vancouver Special is selling two limited edition posters for the upcoming film on west coast modern architecture, entitled “Coast Modern”. Both posters are selling for $150 each, with proceeds going towards the completion of the documentary.
The first poster was designed by the UK firm BUILD™. Michael C. Place and exemplifies his keen sense of detail and colour. This one is coming home with me, for it makes use of my all-time favourite Pantone™ color: 806. I actually almost named the store 806 because I love this pink so much. Printed masterfully on 100lb Topkote text by Metropolitan Printers here in Vancouver, this one won’t last long. Limited to 100 prints. 33 1/8″ x 23 7/16″ .
We’re very excited and proud to bring you release 03 of Party for Architects on May 6th at Vancouver Special from 6pm to 9pm.
The third edition boasts a lecture by the very talented Bryn Davidson of LaneFab, appetizers from Main Street’s Tonina’s Deli, and lots of good beer fom Russell. As well, we’ve just added a special appearance by Coast Modern Film. Make sure to mark your calendars and don’t miss this one!
Release 02 with a lecture by the lovely folks at Measured Architecture was a great success thanks to all of you who came to show your support. Pictures from the last event are now up for your viewing pleasure.
As well, we are busy planning exciting things for the coming months, and there are lots of surprises in store!
Looking forward to seeing you all soon,
Your friends at P4A

About Quick Homes
Architecture For Humanity Vancouver believes that adequate shelter is a basic human right, and that by navigating the constraints and challenges associated with this task, housing the least privileged provides an opportunity to demonstrate both creativity and social responsibility.
AFH Vancouver will be hosting a 1-day Design Charrette at the InterUrban Gallery. Shipping containers are the key component of this design challenge. This design charrette is not merely an exploration of its form and typology, but an ambitious yet appropriate initiative that integrates hardware, software, and logistics.
Quick Homes Superchallenge is organized by Architecture For Humanity Vancouver;
in association with the Design Foundation of British Columbia;
co-sponsored by the Tyee and the Tyee Solutions Society.
Vancouver Special would like to welcome Stephen Colbert to our little city. If you would like to commemorate his Olympic visit, come by the store and pick up a ’Defeat the World’ poster. The posters were designed for The Colbert Report by Shepard Fairey and feature Stephen riding a bald eagle. Because nothing says ‘the Olympics’ better than a little propaganda.
Vancouver Special is pleased to support the BRIGHT LIGHT public art project, in conjunction with the 2010 Cultural Olympiad.
We are selling limited edition umbrellas for $20, with all proceeds going towards the event. The umbrellas feature a map of Chinatown and the DTES in black+white figure-ground, with the various venues and events pinpointed in red. They pop-open for easy use, and are a very cool souvenir for art-y and design-y out of town visitors!
There are also some great events happening at the Candahar Bar and the LIGHT BAR over the next couple weeks.
Check out local synth-pop band “Christine” on Friday night at 11 pm!
More info about BRIGHT LIGHT here.

If you didn’t already know, a new Vancouver city by-law has been implemented which only allows drivers to make or receive phone calls with a hands-free device activated by a single-button touch. Our new AIAIAI earphones allow you to do just that – and no one will even know you’re talking on the phone. With various color combos to choose from, these are a stylish way to listen to your tunes.
The headsets were recently featured in the Ming Pao Chinese newspaper. They are earphones/headset that are designed in Denmark and are iPod/iPhone/Blackberry/MP3 compatible.
Various styles and colors, prices range from $66-72. See the whole collection here.
