What makes it Special?
Designer: Tappio Wirkala (1968) Country of Origin: Finland Manufacturer: Iittala Materials: Glass Dimensions: 8.8 cm H, Volume 28 cl. Why is it Special? Inspired by the melting ice of Lapland, Finland, “Ultima Thule” is an all-time favourite. The pattern on the glass is formed by the process of the glass burning the wooden molds. Thousands of hours were spent perfecting the glass-blowing technique required to produce the effect. These glasses were originally designed by Tapio Wirkkala for Finnish Airways in 1968. Each piece features three tiny “feet” which prevent them from toppling over during airplane turbulence.
